I picked this up out of boredom, intrigued by the synopsis. Sadly, although the book took off quite grandly, the ending was abrupt and there was zero character development. A spunky protagonist and a nice setting failed to make up for its shortcomings and even the romantic aspect was practically non existent. A one time read...

The Chicagoland Vampire series is once of my favourites...
I love a vampire series! This one has everything you could want; action, drama, friendships, family, romance and spice! The story and characters are so good!
I loved the FMC and MMC. It also has a lot of my favourite tropes such as:
-Forced proximity
-Enemies to lovers
-Slow burn
-Touch her and die
The supernatural element was really good, with magic and different supernatural creatures. I also loved most of the side characters and their relationships.
There is also a bit spice in this series, which I like.
I have read every book in the series more than once and didn't want it to end. I definitely recommend this series for anyone who likes romantasy/supernatural action/romance genres!

Some Girls Bite takes place in a world sort of like Sookie or Anita Blake, where the humans know about vampires and they live alongside them. The only difference is that vampires coming out of the closet has just happened very recently so it's still very new and at this point the world (and Chicago specifically) is sort of dealing with the aftermath of that revelation.
Meanwhile Merit has been turned into a vampire as a means of saving her life after she was attacked and nearly killed by a rogue vampire. As a new vampire, her life is about to change in many ways, and Some Girls Bite revolves a lot around her working through these changes. This book also has a lot of world building, character introductions, and potential love interests. None of this is a bad thing, but the small plot we did get was sort of pushed into the background because of all that. This is pretty typical of a lot of first-in-series books though so I wasn't too disappointed by that.
Merit is a sarcastic, witty, and strong-willed twenty-seven year old -- my kind of lady. She's got a really good balance between wanting to stand on her own, and being able to ask for help when it's warranted. I loved that about her. Sometimes strong-willed heroine can equal annoyingly too-good-for-anyone heroine and Merit is definitely not that. I really, really liked her. She could potentially make it to my favorite heroine's list very quickly.
The one thing I'm not sure how to feel about at this point is that there is clearly going to be a love triangle going on. I'm sort of used to them at this point given that I read a lot of YA, but they're not as prominent in adult novels (although still there here and there). I'm not sure how I feel about this. We'll see where it goes though.
Overall this was a really fun read and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I laughed out loud many times, I love Merit, and I really liked the world and secondary characters as well. I can already tell that this series is going to be a lot of fun to dive into.

I don't know how I feel about this book.
I started off by enjoying it and then when I reached the end I felt like I didn't need to bother with the rest of the books.
You got a kick-ass main character, bunch of funny friends, and two hot guys. Not to mention vampires, witches and werewolves. It's a perfect blend of all the things I like.
Wrong.
The plot felt like a young-adult book. The main character was too hung up on the guy who was not reciprocating her feelings. Every-single-chapter was her moaning about how he wasn't giving her attention and yet she called him out every time she got attention from him. Sure, he's an interesting character but I found them all very bland. No background. No filler to their lives. They seem to be living in the now instead of us learning who they are.
She hardly did anything kick ass, and every time we tried to get something kick-ass out of her, it didn't last long. The mystery of her life being in danger, again, was overshadowed by the will they/won't they from the head vampire and her other beau.
Sorry, I just gotta let this one go. I've been duped far too many times by books like this.

Awesome! I loved it! Merit was kickass, hilarious, and she didn't take shit from anyone. Mallory, her best friend, was all cool. She was a wonderful best friend. Now, Ethan or Morgan? Two vampy leaders after her. Fun, no? I like Ethan, but his assholeyness is annoying me, leading me to favor Morgan, Mr. Navarre, as of now. I can't wait for the next one to arrive at my library!

Wow, still so good. I love Merit! She's awesome, and Mallory is pretty cool, too. The sexual tension between her and Ethan is one of my favorite things about this series. I can't wait for it to get resolved (at some point...not sure which book it happens in properly, lol.) 5 stars!
Reread 9/14-25/21
This was a decent reread. It's pretty light and mostly serves as an introductory novel. I like Merit, Ethan is a douche (he improves in later books though), the world of the vampires and other supernaturals is interesting, and I liked Merit's grandfather. 3.5 stars. Recommended.

I love finding new vampire novels. Despite the diversity of novels these days, I’m always going to love a good vampire story. ‘Some Girls Bite’ definitely fits into that slot. A kickass heroine, sexual tension, addictive blood cravings (though always slightly gross to imagine) and an amazing mystery that I certainly didn’t see unfolding the way it did.
What I really liked about this books with its setting. Not the Chicago aspect, but that it’s set in a world where vampire existence is knowing, they’re out in the open and newly announced too. There’s little guessing and secrecy, but also uncertainty about how vampires fit into society. The vampires are sorted into twelve houses, with only the Master of each house being allowed to change twelve humans into vamps each year. But there’s still that sense of mystery in the supernatural world with a sect of vampires (Rogues) and various otherworldly beings still keeping their identities hidden.
What can I say about Merit? Apart from a burning desire to find out what her full name is; Merit is exactly the type of female lead I love readings about. She has flaws, misguided thoughts and sarcastic comebacks to lighten the mood. It’s extremely fun to see her adapt to her new life and I can’t wait to see more of her in the next book.
I was a little worried about the potential love interests in the story. I know which guy I prefer (despite the obvious attempts at staying away from Merit), but it seemed like every new, supernatural guy Merit met in this book was single and hot. While a few of these guys were knocked out of the running pretty quick, I’m hoping there won’t be a massive love triangle for long – although I adore the sexual tension that builds up in the absence of a steady relationship.
Can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.

DNF :(
Thanks to a discussion with my goodreads friends I have come to the decision that this is not for me.
Loads of people seem to love this series but I need WAY more romance in my books to keep my interest unless the story has me absolutely glued a la [b:The Fever Series 5-Book Bundle: Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever|15842007|The Fever Series 5-Book Bundle Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever|Karen Marie Moning|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1346294462s/15842007.jpg|21584022] which this does not.
So at least I can knock this series off my TBR and move onto the next :)
