my first laufey book club read, and a pretty slow read i’m embarrassed!

this story was so depressing, maybe that’s why i took my time with it. i enjoyed it immensely, but was still so turned off by the horrible events that happened to pearl and may. lisa see does a phenomenal job at writing historical fiction in that it all feels so real.

i was a little disappointed in the ending, and that’s simply because i didn’t know there was a sequel! i need to know what happens next ah!

so many annotations and standout quotes in this novel, it was excellently written for sure! i enjoyed it a lot, and i look forward to reading dreams of joy soon!

Man this book was slow. I felt like I was reading this book forever. Though I’m glad I finished it.

This book taught me a lot of the Chinese immigration experience and the poor conditions of Chinatown.

It was clear the author did incredible amounts of research and I do commend that.
