Every Vow You Break is my favorite Peter Swanson book to date, although I’m not sure what exactly I just read. It’s a weird book and definitely not a psychological thriller or mystery. The main twist is so obvious that I don’t even know if it was supposed to be a twist.

The first half of the plot was moving too slow and had too many boring and unimportant flashbacks. I even considered DNFing at some point, but the second half suddenly got so gripping I couldn’t put the book down and finished it in one sitting.

The main character Abigail and the reader don’t know who’s trustworthy anymore, everyone on the island seems to hide something and the plot veers off into a creepy horror story with a terrifying hide-and-seek. I was genuinely afraid and on the edge of my seat.

At one point Abigail asks herself “What movie am I in?” and I would answer that question with the 2019 film Ready or Not (which I loved) or maybe The Hunt. Just like these movies, this book isn’t 100% realistic, but it’s anxiety-inducing, fast-paced action and a lot of fun.

The ending was satisfying, although the last 10% were far-fetched and Abigail acted a little bit too Rambo-like for my taste. This took away some of the suspense the novel built up steadily to this point, but it was entertaining nonetheless and I guess it was needed to reach the conclusion Peter Swanson had in mind.

Took until about the 18th or 19th chapter to get interesting. Definitely not my favorite Peter Swanson novel.

New to me author, Peter Swanson delivers a twisty domestic thriller with Every Vow You Break. The story centers on Abigail Baskin, soon to be Abigail Lamb, in the final days before her wedding to millionaire Bruce Lamb. There were moments that I definitely felt that the move from Baskin to Lamb was foreboding.

The story opens with Abigail spotting the man she drunkenly slept with on her Californian bachelorette weekend. She's now back in New York for the final prep of her wedding, wondering if her betrayal could be kept a secret. But contact from Scottie, 3 days before her wedding, puts her on edge. As celebrations start, the wedding goes off without a hitch, and she finds herself on a mysterious island where she and Bruce will enjoy their honeymoon. Well, that's the plan. But she quickly comes to understand nothing is as it seems, including her new husband.

This dark and sinister read has many twists and I very much enjoyed the nonstop guessing game maintained up until the very end. 4 stars and recommendation.

For real wtf did I just read? It was fun though.

Do not read this if you are not willing to have massive suspense of disbelief.

I'm stuck between 3.5 and 4 stars for this one. It hooked me immediately, and the first 3/4 of it I loved. Great suspense building. The ending honestly felt kind of anticlimactic to me; it just felt like it went off the rails and didn't make a ton of sense. Not that it wasn't a dramatic ending, it was, it just didn't feel particularly creative to me. This was also one of those books with a female protagonist that is very obviously written by a man.

I read this in one long day while recovering from oral surgery. It's a decent thriller with a twist I hadn't seen before. The writing is good and it's an easy read. The plot touches on some themes about gender that play out in the news in the last several years. The protagonist is sufficiently but not ridiculously plucky and self sufficient.

3.5, so well-written, but the ending was so outside of believability and I wanted one more twist when she was looking through the wedding photos.

Wow, what a ride from start to finish! I read this book in less than a day!! A dream honeymoon for Abigail Baskin becomes a nightmare quickly with her new husband, Bruce! I cannot say anymore because I do not want to spoil the complex plot of this book. Loved this ARC that I won in a Goodreads giveaway!! Thanks to #Goodreads and @WilliamMorrow for this thrilling read by @PeterSwanson!
