Not what I was expecting. Roar is a feminist manifesto; a collection of 30 fables, if you will. I learned and grew from some of the stories, agreed with some, and disagreed with others. Each story features an unnamed woman, struggling with an interesting, very literal issue. I enjoyed every one of them, and walked away feeling like a stronger woman who better understood the struggles of others.
This was a great book to keep in my car. Each story was short enough to read while sitting in a drive-thru, waiting for a friend or family member, or while letting my car warm up.

I really had a hard time with this book. I get where she was going but it was just so over the top that it was hard to take seriously. I loved her idea of doing short stories about everyday challenges modern day women face. Unfortunately, the transformations were so whimsical that it was hard to really look at the issue she was trying to represent which were strong enough on their own.

I love Ahern's writing but this just didn't work for me. I appreciate what she was trying to do here but this just fell flat for me and seemed very superficial at best. Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for gifting me a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I felt most of these stories were very surface level, with many causing me to roll my eyes. A short story collection with such a broad theme could really benefit from having different authors that can truly share their perspectives. Also 30 stories is far too many for such a short book. All in all, really did not enjoy this book.

Stunning. Strong. Sad.
Women hold on to so much and can be very relatable.
The woman with the clock - I know you the most.
