This was absolutely amazing. The artwork, the way Shelley's life experiences were interwoven with the development of the classic tale.....I truly loved the power of Lita Judge's words and vision. I'm sad I've finished it and haven't loved a book, fiction or non-fiction, this much in a very long time.

A first person fictional memoir, told in (not very good) verse, with dark illustrations of corpses and people with very large eyes and long, long eyelashes. I did learn a lot in the content, and I was a bit scandalized by all of the revelations. (I had no idea!) But I did not enjoy it.
I see I am solidly in the minority here, but I just didn't like it. I know that the author did a tremendous amount of research, but the pieces did not work for me.

Wow. You know how sometimes you hear about a historical figure or incident and your brain kind of filters it? You know who the characters are and the what the plot of the story is, but there's still often a certain level of disconnect as you gloss over some of the details. Well, this book completely guts that tendency and tells a very personal, very powerful, often sad, and incredibly well-researched account of Mary Shelley's life and how events from her life shaped her and prepared her to write [b:Frankenstein|35031085|Frankenstein|Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1498841231s/35031085.jpg|4836639].

The book is written in verse and every page as these really eerie, dark illustrations. Both set the mood perfectly and help to show us Mary's turmoil thanks to the many heart-wrenching challenges that life threw her way.

I kind of want to re-read Frankenstein to see if I can better draw parallels between Mary's life and her creation.

Beautiful illustrations that radiate Mary’s grief through the pages of this book.

I never bothered reading much about Mary’s life, but I did hear some things before, so I wasn’t a fan of her lover. Turned out worse than I could imagine. I am glad Percy Bysshe Shelley is dead.

This was a reminder of Mary Shelley’s undeniable talent and strength.
