this might be the best book I've read in ages! The characters were annoying (although I loved Caroline near the end) but I inhaled this book, couldn't put it down and almost didn't want it to end.

This book is a typical example of a decent thriller that you just want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen. It is not necessarily anything groundbreaking but certainly keeps you entertained. There was somewhat of a message to take away, with what to me seemed like an attempt to make the reader unsettled as to their own use of social media, but it seemed overly exaggerated for the average person. I always am put off by the portrayal of social media in books, with things like hashtags or pop culture references, but I suppose that is just up to personal likes and dislikes. On one hand I liked that the author made it seem like any of the characters could be the culprit / the stalker, but this also made all the characters unlikeable. All were a bit off, a bit immoral, and very odd. I also feel like most of the book felt irrelevant by the end. The part in the middle was mainly to get the reader off track and lead them down dead ends as to who the stalker was but none of these plot points ended up having anything to do with the situation at the end. It reminded me of those books were everything is meant to come together at the end but instead the whole plot twist and climax could have easily been entirely separate to the remainder of the book. This brings me back to my initial claim that it is definitely a decently entertaining book but its nothing I would be crazy about.

Every single person in this story was unlikeable and I had to admit defeat when I realised that I truly didn’t care how any of it ended up. The main narrator was meant to be American but used British phrases - I’m not really sure why the author chose to make her American when it wasn’t factored into her characterisation other than the mentions of her travels and places she’d lived. Also why was everyone being so mean to each other when they’re supposed to be friends? And I couldn’t deal with the cringe of everybody’s social media captions which dated the book horribly. Rant over - I’ll be taking this one back to the charity shop!

3.5 stars rounded down to a 3.

I had such higher hopes for this book. I usually write my reviews as soon as I finish reading a book and I am forcing myself to do it now, 3 days later. To be honest, I don't really remember much about this book. I didn't find it very interesting for about 50% of the way in. It was slow, but not too slow to where I felt the need to DNF it.

I did kind of predict the ending, but it wasn't horrible. I honestly am glad the ending was what it was because I did enjoy it. But overall, a meh book and I likely won't pick this book up again.

HOW I RATE BOOKS (for reference):
5 stars: an amazing book. a book that will stay in my mind days, weeks, months later. typically an all-time favorite, although not always. Most likely to reread
4 stars: a great book, but is just missing that one thing to set it over the edge. would be somewhat likely to reread
3 stars: meh book. was able to get through it and the story was okay, but not something I'd likely reread
2 stars: just no. a book I did not enjoy, but was able to get through without DNFing
1 star: did not like it at all, was bored and couldn't get through it, DNF'd
