His characters never become the caricatures they easily could. Wilde's play is full of witticism, but it contains more than just acidly sharp lines and blasé characters. It is not moralistic, either. Only Wilde could pull such a thing off.

god, i love how dramatically wilde writes ... ♡ anyway, i love a satirical play when it's well written, and that's exactly what happened here. i love it when oscar wilde criticizes wealthy people and the bourgeoisie. that's exactly the reason why i enjoyed this, along with his wonderful writing of course.
