Red Dawn got off to a shaky start, coming across to me as bad amateurish fan-fiction. There were a number of stumbles in terms of character believability and reactions. However, as the plot progressed things improved. I was pleasantly surprised that even with the rough start I enjoyed the vast majority of it.

The Fifth Doctor and Peri (unusual choice - obviously only one gap in the established narrative where this can take place) land in what turns out to be an Ice Warrior mausoleum on Mars, at the same time as an Earth probe comes to explore. Needless to say, disaster ensues, but the real monsters turn out to be the humans behind the earth exploration ship. Earnestly done by everyone, with particularly good audio evocation of the Ice Warriors and the Martian landscape. Good but not great.

I didn't add a review on my first read because I really didn't think much of it. But I accidentally listened to it again the other day, found it quite shabby, went to add it to my list here and discovered I'd already rated it before. So that's how little this story sticks with you.

This one was meh. It's definitely similar to the Tomb of the Cyberman. Thought the 5th Doctor was very in character. Peri didn't annoy me as much as she usually does.

Possibly the least annoying Peri story to date, but a bit dull ultimately.

Whoo-boy. There is simply no good reason that this should be as bad as it is. You have solid performances from Fifth Doctor Peter Davison and Peri (Nicola Bryant, who finally seems to be nailing that American accent after a quarter century) and a classic bad guy with depth written into them conceptually. (See, from TV, The Ice Warriors, The Seeds of Death and The Curse of Peladon.) How could that NOT work?
Nary a twist to rear it's pretty little head, this is such a by the numbers "evil corporation puts innocent lives at jeopardy while the Ice Warriors act... well, kind of a lot like Klingons" as to be predictable almost from word one. (Ok, I know that's not really a stereotypical genre, per-se, but you know what I mean.) It's endless quibbling and people acting like they had somehow actually fooled you into not knowing that Snidely Whiplash thing they were doing was evil.
Anyway, the leads and the melancholy conclusion to Lord Zzaal's story keep this a bit above the trash heap, but not much.

A solid audio that unlike a lot of the audios, feels a lot like the older show
