I found the first few chapters a bit clunky, but then I got wrapped up in the mystery and finished this book in three days. A bit more tension in the climax and more details and background about the main character would have made this book even better. I also found some developments/theories of the mystery hard to follow.
Looks like this is book one of a series, so I’m looking forward to more mysteries involving Great Aunt Frances’ files! There’s a lot of potential for a great series involving the village of Castle Knoll.

This was an enjoyable cozy murder mystery. It kind of felt like The Westing Game mixed with Midsomer Murders. I liked the puzzle of it all, but it somehow felt a little too drawn out for my taste. I think this is due to the dual timeline embedded in the story. The reveal was surprising, but felt anti-climactic because everything seemed so drawn out. I’m not sure if I’ll  continue on in this series, but I’m glad to have tried a new author.

When I saw the description for this book, I was intrigued by the concept of someone predicting their own death via a fortune, so I was hooked into it straight away - and was not disappointed. Throughout the read, I was constantly trying to figure out the mystery and found the inclusion of the flashback diary entries a fun little addition to shed light on the situation. I liked the fact that there were two mysteries to solve in one which were linked, and I did not predict the ending! 
I didn’t give it a full 5 starts as I felt like the characters were a little 2-dimensional, but it didn’t stop my enjoyment of the book overall.
