I really like her books, and I think this is the 18th or something like that that I've read. It's taking me longer than normal because I also started "Three Bags Full" after starting this, so I guess I'm reading them both at the same time. I usually try not to do that, but I got "Three Bags Full" on vacation and started reading it before I remembered I was already reading this. Oh well...about the actual book, it's really good so far.

I kept trying to figure out if I'd already read this, read bits of the story from alternate viewpoints, or whether Todd was just majorly derivative. I can't tell you what I thought of the story, because it was all giving me a strange sense of deja vu.

Quite a nice, easy read.

I was a bit confused about the ages of the protagonists though - at some points they seemed to be described as pretty young, but then they are also having sexual relationships. Which was a bit weird.

I tried, I really tried, to give Todd's work an honest chance. I just can't make it. There are inconsistencies in the text, the idiot ball is overused, and the quality of the stories just... isn't what I fell in love with Pern for. I'm skipping the rest of the Todd books and going right back to Anne's writing proper. No more trying to force myself through this one when I haven't touched it in six weeks.

The second in a trilogy surrounding the same time period and events, I'm enjoying the details, the different perspectives, and the timeline that is clearly laid out. An easier read, perhaps some bits are rushed, but I rate concerning if I enjoyed it or not!

I bought this and a few other PERN books when they came out from Todd McCaffrey. Overall I'm not a fan. I haven't read any with him since.
