Delightful!

Dragons, teenage protagonists who are sensible and not in a love triangle, adults who adult, alternative history that is neither utopia nor dystopia, I wish more YA fiction was like this! Did I mention dragons?!?

The idea of carbon emissions craving dragons drew me into this story, and I'm glad I read it. It's a fascinating premise, and the book is solidly rooted in history (which sounds weird, because: dragons, but it melded them into history really well). Also, Canada. I loved the characters, and my only real complaint is that I found it a slow read. Great cover though, so I will definitely bring it on school visits.

Whose dragons are these? They are not mine. They are senseless brutes. From an objective point of view, this is a fairly good story. It clips along at a decent pace, the humans are well fleshed out, and it establishes a good focal point for the sequel. Moreover, it has excellent world-building. It just isn't my cup of tea. If I hadn't had to read it for class, I would never have picked it up, much less finished it.
