This was a fun read! A little dated but that was expected. This was my first sort of swashbuckling adventure story and I really enjoyed it! Peter blood is slay

A most perfect blend of pirate adventure, excellent wit, and characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Incredible!

Read this as it was recommended to me by a family member and wow! I love historical fiction books usually and I see a lot of this book in the characters i read by my usual authors. I can't believe me it took 29 years to read this book. Wish I had read it sooner!

The start of the pirate adventure stories. It feels like all big "pirate" media (looking at you, Pirates of the Caribbean) references Captain Blood for some of the critical ideas of piracy. This book includes the captain of the ship that always pulls through no matter the odds, a mutinous first mate who threatens to overthrow the captain, pirates that are still "good guys at heart", and the high-class lady who falls for the rugged pirate.

I enjoyed Captain Blood and suggest it to anyone who enjoys classic adventure novels. Warning, this reads like a classic adventure book. The language is dated and dense, but elegant and descriptive. That being said, the story is engaging and Captain Blood serves as a relatable character who is just trying to survive.

Adventure, swashbuckling and romance!

Entertaining and full of action, it kept me turning the pages but overall I think I liked Scaramouche better. The racism and colonialism was distasteful--while it's considered absolutely horrific for Blood and his white compatriots to be enslaved, there is never any questioning that for black slaves this treatment is fine for an inferior and naturally subject race. Etc.

Adventure on the high seas, a dash of romance, an honorable and brave hero... This 1922 novel holds up surprisingly well. Irish doctor Peter Blood is wrongfully accused of treason in the 1680s and is shipped off into slavery in the Caribbean. All manner of events befall him and lead him into pirateering, and, eventually and rather circuitously, back into good standing with England.
