This was an interesting look at the relationship between a father and a daughter when he is sick. He is a doctor, she is getting a phd in astronomy. There are other siblings, whose relationship we also explore to a smaller extent. It is written in short of flashes of their lives, nobody’s name is mentioned, they are the Father, the First Born, the Twins, etc. i found the way it was written very interesting and effective. Also the way the science was connected to the story, even if it was a bit forced sometimes. Overall, very interesting and worth a try.

The english translation, in my opinion, made a crucial mistake in not translating the name.

Ella, not as a name but as a pronoun, Her, is a young woman working on a physics thesis. As she works day in and day out on her thesis, she finds herself wishing she would fall ill, if only to allow herself a break from her work on top of her teaching job.

As her wish comes true and she comes down with a mysterious illness, she is forced to reflect on her family’s history of illness and their complicated dynamics.

Adorned with metaphors of astronomy and anatomy, we are transported to the center of this family’s cosmos, with intertwining points of view; from Her doctor father to Her increasingly distant partner, Him , who finds himself caught up in a conflict that only draws Him further away

A heavy , emotionally suffocating read , perhaps a bit too much so, with beautiful prose and vivid imagery, that leaves you feeling hurting bleeding for everyone involved
