That was a pretty good book, but it should have been a great book. But throw in a couple of pages of horrifyingly bad art and I don't know what you have. And then 3 pages that were duplicates. I liked the story and the writing. And Luke and Jessica. And Spiderman discussing law with Daredevil. And the whole magic plot and sub-plot. And some of the art was really good. But not to get past insultingly bad art.

Honestly, a really great start to a long, very talked about run. I have my issues with Bendis’ writing style, but here, back in 2004, he was firing on all cylinders. This was before his dialogue got too bloated, before the whole shtick really wore off, and it’s great. I can see why this run transformed the Avengers and Marvel as a whole. Very excited to keep going.

I'm amused by the second-last panel of this, in which one character tells the gathered people that The Avengers have saved the world and: "So you better go do something a hell of a lot more meaningful than watching reality TV and fighting over your seat on the bus. You'd better appreciate it." He's right - time to do something more meaningful than reading comics!
