Book 2, lessgo.
Nila and Jethro were a tad - a TAD - bit more tolerable. I think. They've started developing an odd attachment to each other,
“How do you explain the similarities then? The fact we were raised to be a part of each other’s lives, groomed by families, governed by dictators, and forced into a binding agreement against our wishes.”
...and her clinging to him because he's shit, but he's a better (and a more handsome, fuckable) shit than everyone else. Her goal becomes to make him fall in love with and care for her so he won't kill her - which, I guess smart, if she wasn't so easily wavered and horny all the damn time, considering how readily she got over being fucking flayed and sexually assaulted by him masturbating on her whipped and bleeding back??
But it works, Jethro's attracted to her, too, and getting jealous that she's getting along with Kestrel (who she believes is Kite007 up until the end of the book when she finds out it's Jethro.)
They also end up having sex, and we discover that Jethro isn't as heartless and perverse as the rest of the Hawks but he has to put up a pretense.
And I realize typing this out that I don't hate the book as I thought I did. Nila giving me whiplash with her fickleness is really what aggravates me so much lol.
