I feel like many think this book is about personal affairs between careless people. I feel like it’s a nuanced commentary about specifically the carelessness of the rich and the inescapability of one’s past.

I expected greatness only to be met with something only great in its dullness. It is lost on me why ‘The Great Gatsby’ is considered a classic, perhaps I’m missing some social commentary but all I’ve discovered is that its an uninteresting book about boring and awful people. The redeeming qualities of this book would be its beautiful writing that at times made the book difficult to understand and I was forced to reread parts; as well as the character of Gastby who is admittedly somewhat great, without him this book would have been a complete waffle. I thought that Gatsby was quite funny and charming however he was certainly no intriguing mystery - I didn’t even really understand there was supposed to be a mystery until it was spoon-fed to me and his whole life goal is entirely trivial. Nothing truly happens, it’s all a bit of miff.

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

I have no thoughts other than the characters were as human as they could've been, and Nick is definitely 100% gay.

The ending fell flat. I was just waiting for it to be over.
If my favorite English teacher is reading this. I'm sorry.
