I'll admit I almost put this book down because of the way it was written. The whole five-year-old perspective thing was mildly annoying with all the capitalized words and horrible grammar, but I quickly got over it. I got over it, and it never really bothered me again, although there were some verbs and adjectives thrown around where I thought there was no way a five-year-old would know that word, but whatever.

I digress.

This book is awesome. Once I got used to what was going on and who was telling me the story, I dove right in and couldn't really put the book down. The whole situation is unique (and horrible!), but I think the author really captured how both Ma and Jack would reacts both in and out of Room. Not only them, but the other characters as well. The story felt real, the characters felt real, for really real as Jack would say.

I don't want to give too much away even though I may be the last person on Goodreads to read this, but based on the subject matter I thought this would be difficult book to read. I expected to have my emotions jacked around with, and they were at times, but it was never too extreme. There was more redemption here than darkness, more joy than sadness, and a lot of suspense at the midway point.

I read a lot of books at the same time, but every once in a while a book will come along that makes me press pause on everything else I'm reading. Usually when that happens the book is five stars right out of the gate and never lets off the gas. This book is no exception.

Can't wait to see the movie now.

I'm usually not a fan of books written from the perspective of a five year old, but after hearing about this one from a good friend I had to check it out for myself. It was awkward to adjust to at first, but still a pretty decent book. Worth reading once for sure.

Didn't think I was going to finish this one. The story being told by the 5 year old rambled to much and certain things he said just didn't seem necessary and creeped me out. I scanned read alot of the book. Interesting story line but wished it could have been told by the mother or maybe a little from Jack and a little from ma.

This is one of those books that, upon finishing, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it. Being a teacher, I liked the idea of using the child as the narrator, and thought it was executed well. I feel as though some of the characters were underdeveloped and that was a bummer. Definitely worth reading, but not a favorite.
