I *really* dont like the art on this for the most part but the plot is all I’ve ever wanted since I discovered how much I freaking love Jason.
10/10 will recommend

This trade only collects the two 5 part stories from Batman: Urban Legends #1-5, excluding a couple of other stories per issue, which is disappointing, maybe this is the kind of trade where you're betting off tracking down the issues themselves. In all fairness, none of them particularly stick out in my mind other than the story with Spoiler and Orphan.

One story, by Chip Zdarsky, focuses on Red Hood and Batman, while the other story written by Matthew Rosenburg focuses on Grifter (formerly of the WildStorm DC imprint) and Bruce Wayne's business manager Lucius Fox. The latter is solid, the former is really good - it's interesting, heartfelt, and revealing. The mainline Batman book is in good hands with someone like Zdarsky at the helm.

Cheer:
  • Okay, where do I start.
  • A story about Jason's relationship with drugs and addicts could be so good, but this badly missed the mark imo
  • Zdarsky's interpretation of Jason gives me whiplash. You're literally giving me flashbacks about how 10yo Jason understands it's the drug *dealers* who are harming his mum, but apparently adult Jason is so dumb he needs Batman to tell him attacking the drug *addicts* isn't the answer ??
  • Also. Does Zdarsky know that a dad in prison for deliberetely drugging you is functionally the same as a dead dad? EITHER WAY, you're never gonna see him again and that's probably a good thing, considering
  • Marcus To's flashback art is beautiful though. Baby Jay is so tiny!!

The Long Con:
  • I genuinely enjoy Rosenberg's writing! He's funny!
  • I'm not entirely sure what was happening here, but it did make me want to pick up the WildCATS run so. Mission accomplished?
