James Lee Burke is one of my favorite writers. He’s the reason I know about Alafair and the reason I read The Wife. Man, I’m glad I did. She’s as talented a writer as her dad and did something that very few books are able to pull off. It broke my brain. The ending was so unexpected that I don’t even know what to say. If you haven’t read Alafair Burke go buy everything she’s written. Start with The Wife. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

At points I got caught up in the story and wanted to keep reading, but there came a point where I saw where it was going. I didn’t like the explanations for why it went that way. I wish they would have maybe weaved some the back story of Angela in while the main plot was happening to see how they emerged in the end.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I did end up predicting half of the twists - but I was oddly okay with it. I really disliked the ending. I don't like open endings for interpretation or an ending that could lead to a sequel, so that was disappointing. Overall, I really did enjoy this book!

3.5 stars. Was really invested in the plot, but felt like one story for the first 60 chapters and then a different one for the last 3. Good writing, characters I cared about, good tension and back and forth!

Crazy abrupt ending. Great book, and then it just ends. It works, but very odd.

Disturbing. I enjoyed the book in the beginning, but then it became disturbing. Murder, rape, kidnapping, .... Nothing nice happened. I did not enjoy this read.
