Rebel is a human bounty hunter who hunts down supernatural creatures. Her true goal is to avenge her brother's death by finding the piece of memory missing.

Hunter's Quest wasn't exactly what I expected. The main character felt very young, leaving me to feel like this was a YA fantasy. She has this tough snarky attitude and yet nothing was really that big of challenge for her. It did have an interesting variety of creatures which I enjoyed but again, no creature was out of reach. Hunt a dragon? Fine. Best a leprechaun? Fine. Any time she got into trouble she couldn't handle someone showed up to help her out of it.

It was a light fluffy read with interesting characters and lots of action. I think I'm just used to UF characters like Kate Daniels.

Engaging book that feels like the MC got lost in all the side quests leveling up while trying to figure out what the main objective is. I mean, she has a very strong goal in mind from page one, she just has no idea how to get there and her strategy changes constantly as she makes allies, gains skills and weapons and is given gifts by various characters who see something in her. There is a bigger story here that she is still oblivious too. This isn't GameLit, but the narrator makes a few gaming references so I think the comparison is apt.

It starts a little slow because it takes a bit to figure out what is going on but there is always lots of action, the characters are entertaining and the world building is excellent. Rebel is just a mess of contradictions - mercenary with a soft heart. I'd say more but, spoilers. Overall a light quick read but there were a few emotional punches. Bit of possible romance but very slow burn. By the end I was hooked and it is a series I look forward to reading more of.

This is the first book in Rebel, Supernatural Bounty Hunger series but it takes place in the shared Mayhem of Magic world (Magical Hunters Academy, Bedlam in Bethlehem, Vampire Hunter Tribulations). Some of those characters feature in this book but you don't need to read them to enjoy this book. If you haven't you will probably want to as this book drops some tantalizing hints about relationships and events from those books.

Hunter's Quest is an urban fantasy about a bounty hunter who is seeking vengeance for her brother's murder. It's fun and a super quick read, similar to novels from Karen Chance, Patricia Briggs, etc. If you aren't used to how urban fantasy novels work, it can be a little confusing as you get introduced to a world that is similar to ours but has it's own rules and cast of characters. Hunter's Quest weaves these threads into a cohesive story, and you find yourself lost in Rebel's world, rooting for her at every turn.

Definitely worth the read!
