This classic series is a lot of fun!

It still has some of the trappings of old Marvel comics: a little too much text and less imagery. However, I still enjoyed it. Kurt Busiek wrote the majority of this volume. I didn't notice the difference between his issues and past issues. It was all pretty much the same vibe and style.

What I found interesting was Luke struggling with his image and whether he was fighting on the right side when they were assigned a job guarding a prison transfer. With Luke wondering if working for the cops is really something he should do. There's an issue later on where Harmony hears that someone is damaging a store in Harlem and wants to call the police. Luke says that it's not what they do because the police will come and jam everyone up, including the innocent people. Considering what's going on in the world now, I found that really interesting.

Something most people don't know - and I don't understand fully either considering I grew up in a surburb but I have relatives that grew up in places like this - the neighborhood finds ways to take care of their own because they couldn't rely on police protection or help and, often times, police arriving just made everything worse. There's a huge segment of this country that grew up not believing that calling 911 was necessarily helpful.

I just found it interesting that these concepts were explored in comics all the way back in the 70s. It wasn't perfect, certainly, there was still an unwillingness to hire black writers. Even to write black characters. Anyway, Power Man & Iron Fist has always had some of this discussion in their issues.
