Another one of my favorite American Girls. I enjoyed the movie, but didn't like that they changed Elizabeth (she was a brunette in the books and a blonde in the movie)

Margo (4 yrs) enjoyed this. I liked that it was short (only 60 some pages of story) and had some factual/history reading at the end - nice way to supplement the reading experience with some learning about history. At times I think the prose was a little dense to keep her attention, but she liked the story overall & absorbed the main parts. I'm excited to read more AG books & appreciate that they don't seem to feed the "I need overpriced dolls" syndrome directly! :) And, Felicity is a scrappy girl who bucks gender roles in the 1770s so that's cool too (though Margo might have had a hard time relating to a girl who wanted to wear pants instead of skirts...?)

I can't give it more than 3 stars because her family owned slaves :(

I found a copy at the Friends of the Library sale and picked it up in a wave of nostalgia.

The American Girl books are actually a really interesting read for girls and women of all ages. I wish these books had been around when I was a little girl. A lot of history with a really good story line for girls...and great lessons! Definitely a fun book/series to read with your daughter.

My daughter and I have been working our way through the various historical American Girl stories and this one was disappointing. It taught nothing about the revolutionary era, and the main character sneaks out at night, risks her life, and basically commits horse thievery and gets away with it. Not a great example for girls.
