Great book. I just wish he had kept thr last chapeter shorter. Jas lots of historical references which made it interesting.

loved it! what a worthwhile read. salman rushdie is a literary master. this book was complex, funny, rich, historical, interesting, symbolic, clever, challenging...basically anything a good piece of literature should be. definitely one to read again! i recommend to all literature lovers.

Ha, perhaps I'm a pathetic reader, because I am basing this mediocre rating on the fact that I detest basically every single character Rushdie introduced in this novel. But my distaste made me hesitate to pick it up again, made me dread turning the pages. I did like the end. Perhaps because that meant it was over. "It was ok" because the characters are obviously robust enough for me to hate them...

No one writes like Rushdie-just stunning.

Salman Rushdie is the best fiction writer I've ever read. Hands down. I personally don't think anyone writing today can match the sheer magic of his storytelling.

This book is beautifully written, and the glimpses into Kashmir are interesting, but I kept being disturbed by the gender politics--colonialism as played out on the female body or through female desire. Not sure how I feel about it still.

Took me awhile to get into, but well worth the effort in the end...sprawling, sad story of the making of a terrorist in Rushdie's classic poetic, literary style.

begins and ends very well. there wasnt enough surprise in the middle; it's like he wrote it just trying to get to the present (the end).
super relevant right now considering the scourge on the earth that is zionism and its aspirational white supremacy.
love that he tells this story about love, hate, sacrifice, politics, and war with the personal stories of the nomans, ophuls, and kauls—but i wish i would've seen more of kashmira and boonyi, really felt and knew them. idc about max, girl
