Summary: Anderson offers the reader a concise look at the beginning of Johnny Manziel’s life and career as a football star.

Evaluation: Children ages 9-12 will enjoy this short, and surprisingly thorough, look at Manziel’s move from youth sports to the NFL. The author includes not only the positive biographical facts about Manziel’s life, but also his negative actions that landed him in court. Chapters are brief, most only 2 pages, which will hold the attention of most youth. Photographs of the highlights in Manziel’s life, changing font and color pages add to the overall physical appeal of the book. The table of contents allows readers to choose the portion of Manziel’s life they would like to explore and difficult words are in bold to be explained in the glossary. The vocabulary in the book is easy to read and understand younger readers. Each chapter includes statistics about Manziel’s career that will keep the number focused children entertained.

I recommend this book for purchase by school and public libraries. Also, this book will work well for statistics driven children.
