This is book is such an easy and enjoyable read due to how relatable it is for most women in their mid 20’s to early 30’s, but I imagine it would be enjoyable for any gender/age group.

The memoir is honest and open without being heavy but there are still emotional moments that connect you to Dolly and some of the other people featured.

The joy of female friendships shines in this memoir and is good reminder that love looks different for everyone.

I picked up this book after reading a lot of fantasy earlier in the year, and I’m definitely glad I did! EIKAL feels a lot like reading someone’s diary, kind of like Carrie Bradshaw’s musings or the vibe of Golden Girls. It’s a super engaging and relatable read, capturing the essence of personal experiences being told to you by a friend.

Despite the book's distinctly English references, which might not always work for everyone, I found them to be delightful and immersive. Alderton makes you really feel her experiences: for examples, I particularly felt a connection when Alderton described her best friend Farly growing into her relationship with her fiancée; I knew the feeling of friends growing away from you. Additionally, the parts about body image and navigating your late 20s were especially spot-on for me. The book’s focus on platonic relationships was also really refreshing and really resonated.

While some sections of the book could drag a bit, the inclusion of recipes was a nice touch that added depth and broke up chapters well. And although the insights aren't necessarily groundbreaking, they are delivered with such warmth and humor that they are truly moving.

Overall, this is a sweet and funny read. If you enjoy the introspective and humorous tones of the show mentioned above, you'll likely find this book a proper addition to your reading list.

Very enjoyable read - I felt like the fluffy bits (recipes, satirical emails) were unnecessary, and took a bit from the rest of the memoir. There were also a few moments where the stories seemed to be told out of chronological order, which could have just been me zoning out...

But the emotional journey of Dolly's relationships and stories from her 20s were pretty relatable for a 32 year old who has lost one best friend to an untimely death and another due to just growing apart. Dolly expressed these emotions beautifully. And as the narrator of the audiobook, she is damn entertaining.

I wouldn't go to this book for advice by any means - her experience is unique and not a reflection of my own in a lot of ways. But it's... Comforting? It's also an easy, enjoyable read, and it's kind of fun to read the audiobook and Kindle version (America) for the subtle changes in rhetoric.

this was really beautiful, while cementing stuff i sort of know as an 18 year old hopeless romantic without a fully developed frontal lobe yet, it was a really beautiful memoir and reminded me that not all love stories are romantic and life is messy and unpredictable and difficult and unfair but also really wonderful when you finally have that sense of self, when you are actually content and have peace.

let me tell you, reading this at 18 was a surreal experience.
i fully expected not to like this book, for the simple reason that dolly's life is utterly unrelatable to me. i'm not a social butterfly, i'm not a millenial, i'm socially awkward. but maybe that's the exact reason why i soaked up her insights and advice like a sponge. insights about things i've never experienced.

and though dolly and i don't even share the same generation, i could relate to a lot of her fears—losing friends through growing up/apart, the fear of getting older and not being where you expected to be, and the feeling of slowly running out of time.

everything i know about love gave me extreme fomo, but at the same time also eased some of my other fears and worries about life. i loved dolly's takes on therapy and (female) friendships and platonic love.

will definitely re-read in a few years.
