i was very conflicted about the rating of this book, because the premise is very interesting and the mystery was enrapturing enough, but the characters and resolving of the mystery were so flat. none of the characters had distinct voices even though there were a ton of them with their own narration chapters, which just made me confused when reading because i couldn't remember who was who. the mystery solution also felt really rushed and came after a needlessly long "middle act." even still, i was invested in the mystery, and that's what kept me reading. if not for the cool premise, this book would've gotten one star. there was potential in the beginning, i just wish the middle and end hadn't snuffed it out.
