Beautiful illustrations, and just so weird. This and A Hole is to Dig would be great baby shower gifts for a literary sort. Some pages would also make cute art for a baby's room.

Such a cutie! Best book to tide over a pandemic. Sendak's illustrations are a treat to see...

Really great book that has some snippets that are really thought-provoking on what we're doing with our lives in this information deluged world while other just make you chuckle straight up!

This was sort of like if children wrote proverbs. I found this in the children's section of the library, so I was expecting a story. Some of the ideas were cute, some were outdated, and others just didn't make much sense to me. It was a nice short read tho.

This book is truly endearing. I can't recommend it enough. The artwork is simple. The words are profound. I really loved this.

November 2017 - Ben loved this! He laughed on almost every page, and it was perfectly at his level of understanding/humor.

Not as good as A Hole is to Dig, but still remarkably childlike in its logic and presentation. Beautifully illustrated.

This is definitely not the narrative I expect from picture books. In fact there is no narrative at all, just kind of a stream of consciousness of kid-thoughts and insights. This book appeared on my radar, not because of our recent Sendak exhibit, but because I subscribe to Maria Popova's Brain Pickings newsletter and she uses the illustrations from this book all the time!
I'm definitely glad I read it, though I don't quite know in what context I would read it to/with a child.
