It took me less than two days to read it.
I was a fan of the tv series so I wanted to see the resemblance between them. The characters are well portrayed and very different from what I was expecting to read about them.
I actually didn’t know what to expect of the book, but I couldn’t stop reading. It’s… disturbing but hopeful at the same time. It’s my first book of this kind (detectiveish) and I wasn’t disappointed.

I'm confused by this book. Every where says that this book is mentioned it is referred to as being part a series featuring Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles. Even the author's web site mentions this. But Maura Isles is not mentioned in this book at all. And Jane Rizzoli is really only a supporting character, even though she is central at the ending.

The main charactors are Thomas Moore and Catherine Cordell, the cop and the victim.

It's a bit predictable but I still enjoyed this book. There are aspects about the relationships and actions in this book that just don't gel with me and seem totally unrealistic. But that's what books are, unrealistic.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really like this book . It’s a very enjoyable story, but just short of epic. Certain areas may not be as fulfilling as they could have been. I’m not quite as captivated or blown away, but still had a great experience. I’d recommend this book to others and continue reading from this author. I would probably re-read it.

This was my first Tess Gerritsen book. I had heard good things about her, especially about her Rizzoli and Isles characters.

While I enjoyed this story I feel like it didn’t get really good until the last few chapters. It would suck me in for a little before losing me for a while before sucking me back in again.

I think Gerritsen did an amazing job of explaining how Jane Rizzoli felt being the only woman in a male dominated field. She also did very well explaining how Rizzoli felt “unattractive” compared to other women and hit on some insecurities that many of us have.

I’m looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

The Surgeon, the first of the Rizzoli & Isles books is a solid thriller set in Boston. A fast-paced easy read, this story gripped me from beginning to end. Even more impressive, however, was Gerritsen's ability to weave in feminist themes which is commendable for a book written in 2001. I have read many a book recently that delightfully describe themselves as female empowering, but nothing has come close to Gerristen's incredible subtly that neither takes a back seat to the main story nor overpowers it. The Surgeon tackles topics such as Sexual assault, trauma, and internalized misogyny and works them into a powerful detective thriller centered on relationships and survival. I will certainly continue the series, as I patiently await for the arrival of my girl Dr. Maura Isles!

Цілком сподобалося, Кетрін особливо, але не було якось страшно, очікувала більш гидкого, проте можливо після дарк роману мене вже важко здивувати

Very, very riveting read. I was put off as i can’t stand the tv series. Don’t let this put you off!

Finished it in one night. 🤓.

Twisted, gory, surgical.

I loved the Rizzoli and Isles series and can’t believe I haven’t read one of the books until now. It was wonderful to meet Jane on the page and the cast of characters that were familiar but different.
Like any Kathy Reichs books, nothing was condescending or trivialised. This is a smart, quick-paced read, with a strong mystery and real characters. Can’t wait to meet Maura now.
