I really hate long prologues. This one is 21 pages. That is just too long for a prologue.

Characters: opera singer, aristo
World Building: singing, opera production, interiors
Plot: secret baby, broken engagement, lost child, growing up
Sex: medium
Read another: Always.
Another good outing for Carlyle. Emotionally wrenching, and there is abuse in the past.

Usually these types of novels have a hero and heroine that want to be together but - oh no - there is some kind of obstacle. A coniving cousin, a manipulative mama or a dreadful string of partly interesting crimes. At the very worst, the couple have deep set inner feelings that prevent them from coming together.
This novel had two characters who wanted to be together, argued CONSTANTLY about this fact, but wouldn't just take the jump. There was no tension, no obstacles and no, well, anything. I was bored plain and simple.
