This was a short book so it was a quick read. The spice level was mid and the world felt very small. While the MMC is a bear shifter, that was the only paranormal thing about the story. The MMC confronts the bad guy, the MFC's gay evil ex, in his bear form which was really the only part the bear was useful for. The only other rescuing that the MMC did for the FMC is lend her his lawyer. I enjoyed the story for what it was but, ultimately the paranormal element was disappointing and the story is forgettable. I wont continue the series.

This is a story that I wasn't really expecting much from. The writing was pretty mediocre, and the story was all right. I hate this lazy writing trope that most shifter paranormal romance stories use in which the writers try to say its fine that there is no real relationship development between the two main characters because they are "mates" and are "fated to be together." It is just lazy writing and unfortunately, this story uses that unfortunate trope. For that reason, I definitely knocked off some stars. It's an excuse to be lazy and make it instalove and I honestly am really tired of this trope, especially within the paranormal romance genre...

Fun, short, sweet read!

Axel Jackson is all business - no time for a mate! Harper Bentley is trying to put her life back together. When she accompanies her friend Nina on Nina's work-related assignment to Grizzly Ridge Lodge, Harper never imagined meeting a man who awakens desires she hasn't felt in a long time. Turns out, that's not all - interesting twists and turns that keep you engaged abound for Harper!

Also, for a short story, it does a good job of acquainting you with the secondary characters (Axel's brothers) who most certainly will have books of their own! I'm looking forward to those!

Surprisingly Enjoyable

I had already purchased this book and it was on my TBR list. This book is also included in the OH Canada boxed set.

I am not a huge shifter fan, but if it is well written, I can deal with bears and wolves. This was a quick entertaining read for the writer's first venture into paranormal romance.

I liked Axel and Harper together and felt her reaction to him proved to be very interesting. I wish it could have been a little longer, so we could have gotten more detail. I imagine some of that will come in the books for Axel's siblings. A fun, light hearted read for a lazy afternoon.

His to Protect is a short hot steamy shifter romance. It wasn’t a wow knock your socks of book, but it was agreeable.

It had some funny moments and hot and steamy moments. I had a nice time getting to know the Jackson brothers that have started this new business. Harper and Nina were enjoyable. I was bit frustrated with Harper and her situation with her ex. She really should have left him once she knew. Axel was a deliciously sexy shifter, who helped Harper find out who she is. It was a sweet romance.

I did wonder if their is a series before this one. It felt like Bears of Grizzly Ridge series was a spin-off. Other then that I enjoyed this quick seductive romance.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm tired of all these novella's, short, sweet, simple, and quite a bit boring.
I love the shifter story, with a romance thrown in. But, not a romance, with a shifter story thrown in.
It seems like that's all that's available now-a-days, sigh...
Will fill in the rest later.

Short n' sweet.
Nothing much happens in this story. Girl comes to remote location, meets growly bear, instant attraction/lust/mate, sleazy ex, bear growls, problems solved = HEA

There are some potential conflicts in there, but it never really gets into play. Everything is quickly and neatly tied together. I would have wanted a bit more friction, but for a quick and easy read it's ok.

The characters are a bit one dimensional. Axel is only big, growly and imposing. Harper is weak, submissive and frankly a doormat. Only Axel can se the feisty Harper and only she can see his softer side, because I sure couldn't. I thought Nina would be the voice of reason, but she turns around faster than my dog at the prospect of a belly rub. I would have expected a bit of trouble from the brothers, but there was just a bit of posturing. So, potential conflicts not played out. And the ones the author choose to focus on was scetchy and not that well developed...

Still I did enjoy the couple of hours I spent in Axel and Harpers company, I just had to scale down my expectations a bit.

I didn’t really feel this one at all. I almost didn’t finish it. I found the plot, the characters, and their relationship to be underdeveloped and overexplained. A little bleh, although I didn’t dislike the premise.
