This comic is super 90s grunge to the enth degree. It is pretty corny with little character depth. Perhaps it gets more complex the farther you read, but the first volume was purely cursing, blood, and cigarettes with zero substance. I can totally see people enjoying this, it’s just not for me.

Brian Woodin DMZ:n (Demilitarized Zone) lukeminen venähti pitkäksi. Kiinnostavasta ideasta huolimatta tarina ei napannut mukaansa. Lähitulevaisuudessa sisällisota U.S.:n hallituksen ja vapaiden osavaltojen välillä on hieman muokannut Amerikkaa erinäköiseksi.

Manhattan on demilitarisoitu ei-kenenkään-maa, jonne lähetetään uutisryhmä raportoimaan tilannetta. Kone kuitenkin ammutaan alas. Assistentiksi palkattu Matty Roth jää henkiin tapaturmasta ja ryhtyy vapaaksi toimittajaksi. Hän saa ihmisten joukossa kulkiessaan aivan erilaisen kuvan Manhattanilla elävien ihmisten tilasta kuin muu maailma on kuvitellut.

Herkullisemmaksi sarjakuvasta olisi tehnyt, jos tapahtumia olisi seurattu Mattyn sijasta Zeen näkökulmasta.

brian wood is, by far, my favorite graphic novelist. his stories are gripping and compelling and DMZ does not fall short. i can not believe that i did not start reading this series sooner. the challenge will now be getting to the rest of my life while i plow through this entire series.

after a long time of people telling me to read this, i finally did it. and it's pretty awesome. fits all my requirements: post-apocalyptic, female lead, umm... did i mention post-apocalytic?

3.5 - enjoyable! not super into military stories, however this one hooked me. and i swear like a sailor IRL, but i was a little annoyed at the dialogue with the cursing - it felt repetitious and i heard a parent's voice saying, 'there are other descriptive words you could be using.' there's only so many times you can read 'that's f*cking crazy' (or something similar) before you think, is that all you can say?

but that's probably exactly what i'd say in these same situations. that, and crap my pants.
