Beard with Me by Penny Reid

Beard with Me was very different from the other Wintston Brothers books, and while I enjoyed seeing the background for Billie and Claire, I also felt like Claire was really unfair to Billy... What could or should he have done differently? And I mean - he actually put his whole life on the line so she could have a better life. I loved Claire in the other books, but now, knowing (at least partly) why she won't speak to Billy, I'm not so sure I like her at all anymore.

Wow.
This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I didn’t know how I was going to feel about this installment because it is a flashback - but it filled in so many questions I’ve had throughout the series and really sets up the backstory for book 7. Keeping my fingers crossed for a HEA in book 7 because book 6 gave me the big sad.

This was the origin/backstory of Billy and Scarlet. This story does not have an HEA, but that should hopefully be coming in book 7. This was so completely heartbreaking, although there were moments of sweetness, love, and humor. I feel for all of them so much.

I’m so thankful to Penny Reid and her books, she never disappoints. I felt all the feels and loved every word. I enjoyed that I could finally find out what happened between Billy and Claire way back when. I also loved the chance to read about the Winston’s in their youth and for the opportunity to spend more time with Bethany. I am counting down the days until Beard Necessities.

I knew going in that it wasn't a HEA, but I wasn't expecting it to be so heartbreaking.  It was insanely difficult to read and finish.

Finally, Billy & Scarlet, even though this is all about their past, I really enjoyed it, and it broke my heart!!
