I’m always happy to pick up a Khalid Hosseini novel and I’m glad to say I loved this one as well BUT it just fell flat for me compared to the kite runner and a thousand splendid suns

A brilliantly crafted book, drawing together different strands to build a story with two siblings from Afghanistan at its core. I found every strand interesting in isolation and each helped to understand a different aspect of the whole story, including the reasons behind certain characters' actions and mentalities. Moving without being excessively tragic with little flourishes that added tenderness.
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Death of parent, Alcoholism, Toxic relationship, Dementia, Suicide, and Murder
Minor: War, Terminal illness, Infertility, Abandonment, Medical content, Violence, Domestic abuse, Confinement, Cancer, Abortion, and Injury/Injury detail
