I was excited to start this series by Elsie. I didn’t realize I had read them backwards and this came before Chesnut Springs.

I was drawn in from the start! As a little girl I was OBSESSED with horse racing and thought I’d be the next great jockey. So this was such a welcome surprise when I learned this series is about a horse racing ranch.

I really like Billie and Vaughn but I wasn’t as attached to them as some of Elsie’s other couples. It took me a while to figure out what I felt was missing and I think it is the fact that Vaughn is more white collar. I love the Chesnut Springs men because they are blue-collar, not afraid to get their hands dirty, rough and tough etc. So don’t get me wrong, while I enjoyed this a ton it just wasn’t my fav.

I loved Billie and how hard she fought for herself, her values, and her horse!

I can’t wait to continue this series!

Hated the end. Billie forgave him way too quickly for the way he betrayed her trust. The worst part was his inner monologue during that time. He had zero self reflection and even as he “came to his senses” he was only focused on Billie forgiving him, not on the things he did and said. He should have done a lot more explaining, reflecting and groveling. I would have loved if there was more time between the blowout and them reconnecting.

I absolutely loved the setting with the horses, the races etc. first time for me and I'll try to find more books like that!

The only thing I didn’t like in the book is when he said that “she was young and inexperienced to train horses” so that was a very big part of why the book was 4⭐️

Billie is kind of the worst but I didn’t think that until I read the other ones. But she’s the worst in the way that’s lovable so I guess it’s all good. I liked their relationship in the book but from the other characters perspective in future books it’s kinda nasty
