Reminder: NEVER start reading this book at 11 pm if you work the next day. Finished at 3 am because I couldn't put it down. This book is so wonderfully written that you cannot stop reading at the end of a chapter. I knew better. When I first read it, I read all 3 in one weekend. I will not be starting Catching Fire until I have a day off.

I feel like I can appreciate this book so much more as an adult. Suzanne Collins, you are an icon!

I was worried I wouldn't like it as much as I used to but I was still blown away by this book. It actually adds a whole new level to read it once you are no longer eligible for the Hunger Games and you realize how young they are. I forgot how funny it is and Haymitch's connection with Katniss. I just loved it.

I'm so glad I reread this as an adult because it really let me appreciate the series more

I love Katniss. She feels very believable and, as an autistic woman, I really relate to her just... not understanding other people or doing something for one reason and having that misconstrued by other people

I love that she's allowed to not know what to do at times, I love that she's allowed to be confused about certain things, I love that she isn't this gentle, sweet, cookie cutter protagonist, but she's also not a ruthless killer either

She feels guilt when she shoots the District 1 kid for what he did to Rue. She feels bad because she doesn't even know his name, wondering about his family and friends

She's a teenager, forced into this hell for the entertainment of the rich, and she both understands that and resents it, but also is like "well what can I do?". She's focused on surviving, not on starting a rebellion (which I find incredibly funny that she's kinda just like, "Oh, I started an uprising by defying the Capitol in the game??? Oops")

I also like her distaste of her prep team but also feeling a bit of fondness (like she said, she doesn't view them as friends, more views them as pets she hasn't seen in a while after the games)

I liked how she was trying to adjust to suddenly being half deaf in the middle of the games where your senses can mean life or death. I kind of wish she had kept the disability, but I understand it makes more narrative sense for the Capitol to fix it, like they fixed her scars
