Found this slightly odd. Idea of perfect beauty exists within a 14 year old from the lens of a 25 year old. Harks back to a fairly medieval idyll and quite religious. Enjoyed the matriachal aspect of the novel.

19th century utopia which feels strangely like an early Star Trek episode - but really too dated to be entertaining.

After reading Wild England by Jeffries this was like a breath of fresh air or at least like getting a teeny bit of air. The book actually got started straight away and the first-person narrative was engaging. The plot itself or at least the people were really odd. Sort of couldn't totally understand where Hudson was coming from and what exactly he was trying to get at. Quite an interesting an idea to plop a sexual person down into an asexual world but then how this was dealt with was very problematising to me: the book seemed to suggest that an asexual world was a utopian one, where everyone sort of is very calm and positive about things. It started to sound cult-like to me and it totally evaded any sense. Look forward to hearing about this in a lecture and what was actually going on here. Nevertheless, there were moments or sentences which were enjoyable and kind of beautiful to read so I have rewarded 0.75 points for that. I mean not enough for me to remember anything in particular, but the feeling is there.

Pretty dated old sci-fi styled adventure only just maintained interest, but will be quickly forgotten in the mists of the backwaters of the memory banks.
