I think this series is growing on me - I enjoyed book two more than book one. Maybe it was partly being more familiar with the three types of vampires, maybe it was that some of the world building was out of the way and the plot could just go.
Now to be clear I’m giving this five stars but it’s not like a new favorite book of all time that I’m planning to fan girl and reread … but it was solidly enjoyable.

Still a decent read in the series so far for Vampire Academy. Obviously meant for YA readers but enjoyable enough. Hoping for a little more excitement whenever I read the other 3 books though.

In some ways this book was better than the first, and other ways it was worse. It was worse, because it felt a little sluggish, but the good parts were: the clear evolution of Rose's character, and the emotional response Rose has to the climax of the book. Often in novels the emotional response characters have to their harrowing adventures is very... downplayed?

Not a bad read, just nothing particularly special. An okay book 2 - but I would have liked to have seen more depth around the magic or the politics and less high school relationships. The cast of characters has potential that I don't think will be reached.
