This is what I thought my Economics degree was going to be before all the retarded business students in my class made me drop out and study Creative Writing.

Could have built better toward the conclusion.

We should study the viral stories about economic behavior spread by other people, books and newspapers because these economic narratives can be highly contagious and have substantial influence on the boom and bust cycle.

Just finished reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed viral economics something we are all quite familiar these days. Interesting and intriguing concept which has given me insights on how to look at the fate of the economy of the world amidst these days. The concept of contagion narratives in this book is something that is not taught in business schools , however gives clear insight of how narratives are created , manipulated which results in shaping household and government policies.

The best thing about this book is its compilation of reoccurring thematic narratives over the 200 years, especially the Luddites, labor-saving machines, and robots with the fear of losing one’s job. Otherwise the case for narrative economics was suggested more than established.

Um livro interessante sobre como algumas ideias tornam-se virais e influenciam os mercados.

I tried reading this book a while back before I started investing because I enjoy learning about the psychology of groupthink. Unfortunately, I couldn't grasp the book back then because you need a basic understanding of markets. About a year later, now that I started investing and have been learning about the markets, I had to give this book a try, and I really enjoyed it. Robert Shiller is a voice of reason in an insane world of stock traders and investors. Shiller takes a deep dive into how stories can affect how stocks go up and down, and he even goes into a lot of history to give examples for various narratives. I think my favorite chapter of the book was towards the end where he explains that no matter how much we learn about narrative economics, even experts can't predict the markets because they're so irrational.

The next iteration for economic research - the natural evolution of behavioral economics. Fascinating read.
