Mis(h)adra by Iasmin Omar Ata follows our main character Isaac who is struggling with school due to his debilitating epilepsy. His episodes are so painful that he no longer sees the point in trying to live.

This is everything I want from a graphic novel. The art in this book is so bright and clean and the type of art I love in graphic novels. It’s extremely emotional and while the main character can be frustrating at times I really enjoyed his growth throughout the book.

"Tired of fighting... Tired of trying to explain myself... it didn't work then and it didn't work tonight. There's no point. This is just the way it's always gonna be, isn't it?"

This was such a great read! Fantastic representation of epilepsy. We follow Isaac in his everyday life as he struggles with his condition and the helplessness he feels because of it. The story did a great job of showcasing the constant dismissal from the medical community, as they routinely ignore and downplay his symptoms.

I also really appreciated his friendship with Jo and that he met someone who not only stood by him, but reminded him to continue advocating for himself and to not give up on himself. I think she did a good job of being stern with him regarding his wellbeing without being rude or mean.

Also, the art in this is stunning! It is so vibrant and I really loved the manifestation of Isaac's epilepsy as swords. That was a really cool touch. All in all a great read and I highly recommend!
