Slaughter has done it again. A realistic look into the worst of society. I found myself grossed out, upset, frustrated and sad multiple times throughout this book. This series has gotten my attention.

This was dark and I’m really not sure how I feel about it. I think Karin Slaughter does a good job of writing about very dark topics with the appropriate amount of care, but unless you’re committed to reading this series I think you can skip it. Detective Lena Adams still sucks and I’m hoping her character arc will show us some actual growth in the next books.

The first book in the Grant County series was fucked up but fun. I hated Kisscut. I could rant for hours about how gross it is. I don’t know if the homophobic and anti-choice protagonists are a product of the time but I found it really disturbing in a book full of pedophilia and police brutality.
