The story could have been more developed and some of the writing made me feel like I was reading a novel for tweens, but it was still interesting and had likable characters.

This book felt very magical to me.
Every single character was very well written And I adored Theo and Lena’s father daughter relationship. Theo was just such a loving and caring father I loved him so much. Lena and Alexandres relationship was also the highlight of this story and it was so warming to read about them as kids just being such good friends to each other.

The first half of this book was five stars for me but I have to say the second half lost the momentum it was building so it got a little difficult to read. I felt like Alexandre and Theo had such a good plot for the second half and then Lena’s plot fell flat. I was always waiting for the author to give Lena more of a challenge or purpose but it was simply just her living her life. Besides from that I really did enjoy this book and the atmosphere it created was something so special.

This was a very cute book. While it will not challenge you academically or push you as a reader it is a great story line and a refreshing reminder that even when the war was over… there was still a game of survival that needs to be had.
While I’m not usually one for “everything works out happily” I think they did it as nicely as they could here. It’s a great YA novel.
