Writing was dull and pedestrian & (once again) I was stressed out by all the lying.

These books read fast. That's one positive thing about it. I can just grab one and finish in one sitting.

I like how heritage and being half-Filipino/half-American was used in the plot. The family dynamics aspect was interesting. However, I noticed from the last one I read and this one that lying and deceit is becoming a common theme. It is along the lines of coming to terms with who you really are, accepting that so that others can accept you. There is usually one or two douchebags and learning to hear the other party out and forgiving always does the trick. If only it was that easy! Again, linear plot makes for a quick read but substance wise, it may come off as shallow.
