Pain and healing

You get to know the basics of David's backstory in book 1 but you dive deep into all of his pain in this one. So much he has to atone for. His and Charlie's story has so much heart. I loved it so much!

This series just gets better and better! I swear I want to scream a thousand words about how everyone should read all of these books. They are phenomenal.

David the poet really is an oxygen thief. He is so damaged that my heart is still breaking. He deserves some peace and Charlie can bring that for him. I cried so much reading this book. The pain seemed real and my investment in these characters is lifelike. I highly recommend this book and series. It's more then five

Very Heartbreaking

The story of Poet and Charlie was very heartbreaking right from the start. Poet blamed the loss of his daughter in the blast of the lab explosion on himself even though he wasn't able to get to the sight in time, because he was supposed to be there that day, not his baby momma and his child. He regretted having hung back to kiss the pretty girl, Charlie at the diner. Charlie had felt responsible all these years because she knew that Poet had hung back at the diner to kiss her the day his world came crashing down, but she has always loved this man, even though her mother told her he was a bad man, he came back into her life and she just wanted to be his everything. He even told her he was bad for her, but she only wanted to save him. She tried to, but her everything was enough to keep his demons away.
what will it take to chase all of Poet's demons away and let him have his happily ever after?

Y'all, I was not freaking ready in any way, shape, or form for Atone. From the freaking prologue, when David walked into the diner and he and Charlie saw each other and KNEW, I was NOT OKAY. Then the story progression from young love to death and brokenness and trauma absolutely GUTTED me. David is exactly the right shade of devastated for me, scrabbling to confront his demons, overcome everything he's faced, and prepare himself for a future with his beautiful, his light, Charlie. Charlie knew David was it for her the moment he walked into her family's diner and never looked back, loving her oxygen thief just the way he is, supporting him when needed, and raising hell when he couldn't get past his issues alone. Good Gaia, I love this book. When I finished it at midnight, I just clutched it to my chest and sort of rocked back and forth because this book nestled its way inside my soul and I cannot get past it. The broken MMC who feel undeserving of love and the strong women who overcome them are just *chef's kiss* my absolute jam.
