Excellent and sobering. As another genocide funded by us rages on today, reading about the aftermath of the Guatemalan genocide in the 70s and the effort to recover and return bodies is just...gut punch. This is done so well with stories from survivors and families left behind who are looking for their lost, and an anthropologist looking at the bones and seeing what they can tell us.

This book made me switch my anthropological research to immigrant studies and death on the United States. It completely changed the way that I perceive death on a cultural and global scale
