Edgy classic-style fairytale, featuring a girl who is sad that she is ugly.

The most fascinating thing about this story, to me, was that the faerie wish-granter doesn't give her beauty itself, but the perception of being more beautiful than any other woman.
This becomes problematic, as you might guess.

I loved watching the choices of the creators here - panel to panel, Coddie would switch from her original "ugly" form to the more aesthetically pleasing version, depending on the gaze of that panel.

It was a very readable, riveting story - in keeping with the team's earlier work, [b: Miss Don't Touch Me|6136798|Miss Don't Touch Me, Vol. 1|Hubert|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328754957s/6136798.jpg|6315495]. Thought-provoking. And a little disturbing.

That’s humans for you. A thousand wishes wouldn’t be enough for you. You’d always need a thousand and one.

After just how bizarre A Man’s Skin was, I think I was expecting something a little more off the wall. The twists on the familiar “most beautiful princess in all the land” premise won’t take a 2021 audience by surprise (being relentlessly pursued by men is bad, actually) but the intertwining with the fairies and the multiple little storylines kept me binging it.

I also love the art. It’s deceptive—looks almost like a Saturday newspaper comic strip at first glance, with its goofy-looking characters, vivid colours, and neat little panel boxes, but it really shines when switching between “Coddie” and “Beauty,” and demonstrating the haunting way she presides in the men’s dreams.

Ultimately I wanted to have a stronger opinion on this, but the themes (and it is, mostly, made up of its themes & moral) fell flat because it was just so predictable. Beauty corrupts. Don’t do a victim blame. Hmm. Still, I find myself drawn to this author’s odd style and Kerascoet’s charming art.
