Probably very impressive for its time, but nothing special now. The story meanders and sometimes manages to be boring (which is almost an achievement for a book so short). Over all, I thought it was okay although the blatant sexism did take me out of the story many times over.

I really enjoyed this book, it took me a while to get through as this hasn’t been my month for reading but I loved every second of it. It got into the action pretty quickly and kept you curious about what was next throughout. I think it also showed how different types of people would react in this kind of scenario and how peoples reactions effected the way things happened.

Considering the time this was written in, I appreciate the author's imagination. And I generally like stories in which a character goes on a journey and witnesses things/meets people along the way. Especially if it's tied in with a catastrophic event everyone is experiencing. And this would have been terrifying and emotional ... if I liked the writing. I just didn't. So I really loved the idea but the reading experience wasn't great. I'm glad I finally read it, though.
