This was overall a very fun read. I love King Torin and I was WISHING we would have gotten some more spice between him and Ava- but I assume that will be coming in the next books!

I do hope this goes through another round of editing because there were multiple grammatical errors and repeated words. Another thing I caught was at the beginning of the book also said it was Avas 23rd birthday when really it is her 26ths.

The cliffhanger was UNCALLED FOR! Haha I cannot wait for the next book!

I really enjoyed this it’s a Fae fantasy enemies-to-lovers slow-burn romance set in an alternate world where humans are now aware of the existence of faerie. Ava is a low-level Fae brought up in the human world. She has no idea of her origins or parents and was abandoned before later being adopted by her human mother. Alone since her mother's death, she has one constant her fiancé when he betrays her Ava is heartbroken swearing off love and it’s this decision that paves her way forward.

Torin is the most powerful Fae and Seelie king the last thing he wants is a wife but current circumstances force his hand. Tradition dictates a contest a brutal bloody and dangerous undertaking for the potential queens, it’s also going to be televised fodder for the human masses, needing a bride but with his own secrets Torin strikes a bargain one that Ava for great reward is willing to risk all for and If she can win the contest it will be a short marriage to fulfil a purpose but in name only.

This wasn’t a graphic one and this is definitely a slow burner but despite that Ava and Torin had so much raw chemistry and I’m looking forward to the second book in this duet. Also despite this being labelled enemies to lovers I didn’t think they were really all that more wary adversaries that had hit off on the wrong foot making snap judgements.

I adored how bloody and brutal the bride contest was and though I had an inkling of what Ava’s origins were going to be revealed as I still enjoyed this immensely. I also loved the friend and was glad Ava had someone standing at her back in support.

Overall this was an excellent first book and I’m looking forward to the conclusion. This is my first experience with this author though I do have other titles of hers on my TBR which I’ll now definitely be moving up my list.

This was a solid read for me. I liked that it took place in modern settings, and having the fae world be so known to humans was a nice change of pace from the typical 'secret other world'. It had a unique plot and storyline that I really enjoyed.

-Fae Romance
-Cursed Fae King -Dying Kingdom
-Marriage of convenience- A contract. 50 Million Dollars.

-Secret training sessions with the Fae King
-Orphan finding their lost parents
-Discovering a hidden power
Spoiler
Ava and Torin fist fight each other a lot more than they kiss each other...
The amount of times that Ava punches him in the face just wasn't for me.
The sexiest part of the whole book is 74% of the way through.
They make out and grope each other. PG-13 stuff.

And sad for me was the slow burn pinky-touches lost their flair because Torin's touch is lethal to Ava...
He could have killed her. He also entered her in a deadly competition where people lost their feet and their lives. Ava's mantra through it all is "50 million dollars"
You can't send money if you're dead.

Why did it only have two chapters in Torin’s POV? More of his POV would have made his chapters make more sense.

Ava is supposed to be a 26 year old bartender but she reads like a 16 year old who like to say F*ck a lot.
The dialogue is so immature- like:

"But his body was absolute perfection, and he was insane in bed. In a good way."

I can’t really forgive Torin for almost killing Ava after already knowing he could be falling in love with her.
Dick move.
Made those “slow-burn touches” anxiety inducing.
I was wondering- “is this the moment he realized he loves her and kills her?"
Instead of, “aww… he touched her arm” swoon.

While I still crave an easy, fantasy, romance, pallet-cleansing story, I think I've grown out the YA writing style.
