I wanted to be more into this than I was but felt like the characterization and plot were a bit choppy? And that I didn’t really get to see them fall in love but was told that they were in love

I wasn’t really buying into this book until over halfway through. It was hard to believe that she was so interested in him so quickly, and that they fell in love over the span of a couple of days.
But as the book went on I really started to believe it, and the tension/conflict really amped up too, leading me to tears at the end, and a great love confession by the hero. Worth the initial frustration.
Plot: Heiress Violet is being forced to marry, so she plans to escape. A devilish suitor conspires for them to travel together in hopes that she’ll marry him. They fall in love, but upon being discovered, Violet learns the truth, and thus begins a stony marriage, until Christian proves to her his character.
Heat level: 7

I do like a road trip trope!
Interestingly, neither protagonists are what they seem in this volume of St George's Gilded Age Heiresses series. Violet looks and acts sweet and biddable, yet she is determined and driven underneath. Christian appears to be a pretty rake, when underneath he is actually lonely and as squishy as a marshmallow. They're a sweet couple and I enjoyed watching their adventures.

1. The writing was a solidly 3.5/5 until the last like 5% of the book but then it dropped to a solid 2.
2. 2.5/5 for plot. Predictable.
Damn shame. Not shocking though.
