Wow.. wow. This is 100% the best novella I’ve ever read and I can’t wait to pick up the rest of the series. I truly don’t know how a 96 page book almost made me cry three separate times but I’m here for it. The writing was phenomenal, the world building (the dragons) was just so.. wow.

I think this was a huge step up from Of Blood And Fire. Cahill’s writing and prose has really improved, and the characters felt a lot more alive.
The pacing is super fast (being a novella), and Cahill paints a vivid picture of a city falling to ruin. I’m glad I read this after Of Blood And Fire.
The only thing I didn’t like was how characters spoke to each other. Again, it’s very much like a cliche fantasy movie in terms of its dialogue.
I still enjoyed it! Will definitely continue with the series.

Great setting-up for The Bound and the Broken saga. Schemes, betrayal, and lots of action.
Definitely not a standalone but fulfills its mission of intriguing you into keep reading.
