Don’t do what you can’t undo, until you’ve considered what you can’t do once you’ve done it.

I first heard of the Realm of the Elderlings through a tiktok, and thought, "This looks fun to just jump into without any additional thought," and yet I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book: the blurb seemed dry and the opening chapters drudged on for a bit more than liking. But once the preliminary events happened, the worldbuilding and characters really captivated attention. All in all, this book gave me the vibe of a prologue—or a compilation of flashback scenes sprinkled throughout a televised season. That being said, I look forward to seeing what occurs next!

This took me a while to get through (a week for a book under 450 pages?!) but I enjoyed the slow pace of the story and the writing. I haven't actually read a full book written in first person in a long time, and really liked the narrator/protagonist. I'm not that familiar with fantasy as a genre, to me this didn't seem that 'fantastical'? Think I expected something wilder. I will continue with this series because of how much I enjoyed the protagonist's story telling.

I don’t usually write reviews as I’m not very good at putting my thoughts into words but this book was amazing and thats all you need to know! If you like fantasy read it and if you have tried reading it and found it boring try it again in a few weeks or even years because that’s what I did and I’m really glad I did! And now I’m going to order book 2…and try questing to my dog (Those who have read this have totally tried doing that right?)
